Child Falls From Florida State Fair Gondola Ride

According to the NYPost.com, a young girl fell approximately 40 feet after she slid underneath the safety restraint on a gondola ride at the Florida State Fair.  The incident occurred last Saturday night at the state fair in Tampa, Florida.  The child’s identity has not been made public at this time.  The accident report states that the child fell between 35 and 40 feet and onto a grassy field. She was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office report states that the girl suffered a broken wrist and sustained other injuries.

Law enforcement authorities stated that the incident has been decided to be a tragic accident.  The ride was closed down following the accident and was reopened following a close inspection by fair officials.

According to  Cheryl Flood, the executive director of the Florida State Fair, guest safety is their top priority.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission states that approximately ten people die on amusement park rides each year.  Moreover, about 7,000 amusement park riders are injured each year.

The ride, known as the Sky Ride states that riders must be 48″ tall or taller to ride on the ride and all children must be accompanied by an adult.  The accident is currently under investigation. No further information was provided at this time.  4 feet tall and accompanied by an adult.
